Henry "Wayne" Howard
Henry "Wayne" Howard was born on September 1, 1955 in Augusta, Georgia to the late State Representative Henry L. and the late Thelma Jones-Howard. He was the fourth of eight children raised by his father and the late Arnestine Howard.
Howard is a member of the historic Tabernacle Baptist Church where Reverend Otis Moss, III is pastor. He is a member of the C. S. Hamilton Male Chorus and the Sanctuary Choir.
Howard was a member of the Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church from 1965 to 2002. While there, he was ordained as a Deacon and he served as Chairman of the trustee and finance ministries. He was also president of the Mass Choir and worked closely with the youth ministry, under the leadership of Reverend Lessel Leonard.
Education
Howard received his education at Ursula Collins Elementary School, A. R. Johnson Junior High School and Lucy C. Laney High School, where he graduated in 1973. He also attended Augusta College, now known as Augusta State University.
Business Career
Howard began working at an early age under the tutelage of his father. His first job training was that of carpet installer. Thereafter, his father trained him in the craft of furniture re-upholstering. He became a skilled furniture upholsterer before leaving high school. To enhance the family's business opportunities, from 1975 to 1985, Howard's career took a different turn and he decided to embark on the business of retail clothing for men. This business was located in the 1000 block of Broad Street. After a brief period of time in this location, Howard's leadership abilities led the business into greater growth and the business was relocated to the 900 block of Broad Street, doubling the previous space.
In 1977, Howard emerged as the sole owner/operator of the men's retail business and was named Businessman of the Year by the CSRA Business League. He attended national trade shows all over the United States during this time to expand his knowledge of the clothing industry.
In 1986, Howard ventured into another family business called "Uniformals Unlimited". This business was opened in the family business headquarters building on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.

The family business expanded to include furniture operation, concert promotions, Parade of Quartets production, retail industry and politics.
Henry L. Howard continued to bring challenges to the family and Henry "Wayne" Howard was consistently chosen to head projects because of his demonstrated skills. Howard's father remained active in the family business until his death on October 2, 2005.
During the 80's Howard continued to train under the direction of his father in the area of promoting entertainment. This prepared him to become one of the most active promoters in the Augusta market. Opportunities were presented for Howard and his brothers to promote nationally known entertainers in the Augusta area. He led in the effort to bring entertainers such as Shirley Caesar, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, Kirk Franklin, B. B. King, Frankie Beverly & Maze, Grover Washington and many more.
Howard's growing experience in the entertainment industry placed him in a position to expand his resources for bringing family entertainment to the Augusta area. National agencies recognized Howard's ability as a sales agent and asked him to lead as group sales agent for such entertainment as the Ringling Brothers Circus, Disney on Ice, Harlem Globetrotters and others. All of these achievements have enhanced the economy of the Augusta area as well as exposed the citizens of Augusta to nationally known entertainment.
Community Leader
In 1994 Howard received an Outstanding Service Award from the administration of Lucy Craft Laney High School for his involvement in starting the Lucy Craft Laney High School Mentoring Program, which provided mentoring for at-risk youth. He also received an Outstanding Service Award from the New Savannah Road Social Services Outreach Program in 2002 for his work as one of the founders of the New Savannah Road Social Services Outreach Program. This program provided outreach for youth and seniors. The program offered after-school tutoring, intermediate computer skills for seniors and introduced inner-city youth to cultural activities.
Political Career
Henry L. Howard began his political career in the mid 1970's. Henry "Wayne" Howard worked very closely with his father and acquired extensive knowledge of the political arena during the course of his father's political career. Howard met and developed relationships with many citizens of district 121 and developed a reputation of service, reliability and loyalty.
Howard currently manages the family businesses: Howard's Upholstery and Uniformals Unlimited. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Augusta Youth Center.
Family
He married Cassandria B. Howard in 1984. They have 3 children: Alva Howard Lampkin, Thelma Nicole and LaRon, two son-in-law's, Ron Lampkin & Keven Mack, and one grandchild, Amari Lampkin.
